Monthly Favourites.
These are a bunch of fun and interesting things I have discovered this month. I will be talking about a book, a podcast, and a game.
Game -: Gebeta
Earlier this month I was scrolling through Twitter when I saw Dawit Abraham’s post on Twitter that they won the Best African App award at AppsAfrica 2020 awards. The post mentioned that the app was a board game that’s a testament to ancient Ethiopian and African wisdom which sparked my curiosity and led me to download it from PlayStore. Gebeta is very similar to my childhood favorite game “Ajua” which I played as a kid here in Kenya.
I have been obsessed with this game and I love it. 10/10 would recommend!
Book -: Children of Blood and Bone
I have to say that this was my best read this year. I picked this book by chance and was a little skeptical about it. However, I loved every single character, the authors' style of writing was so authentic, and the fusion of the Yoruba language had me loving it all the more.
It’s a book of fantasy about magic based in West Africa. The main character Zelie is tasked with bringing back magic to Orisha which was taken away by the royalty when they killed all the Maji(people who possessed magic) sparing only the diviners(those whose magic hadn’t come to fruition). The royalty oppressed the diviners by enslaving them. With the help of the princess, Zelie fights the prince and the royal guards to bring magic back to Orisha. I devoured this book in 3 days since I couldn’t put it down.
This book is buried within my heart and I can’t wait to get my hands on the Sequel.
Podcast-: The Ladybug Podcast
I have been listening to their career series and I have gained a lot of tips and tricks. My favorite podcast so far has to be Productivity Tips and Tricks.
Check them out I am sure you will learn something to apply to your life and career.
Kindly share in the comments some of the interesting things you have discovered this month or year. Adios!
